Imagine America Foundation

Student of the Week from

The Culinary Institute of Virginia in

Norfolk, VA

The Imagine America Foundation is fortunate to annually support thousands of exceptional Career College students through Scholarships for Education. Some students, though, stand out above the rest.

The Imagine America Foundation is pleased to announce our Student of the Week is John Ruane, from The Culinary Institute of Virginia in Norfolk, VA. John was chosen for his exceptional grades, attendance, and work ethic. John has been awarded the Imagine America Foundation's High School Scholarship and Promise Award.

John was recommended to us by the Culinary Institute of Virginia's Program Director Chef Troy Camacho. Here is what Chef Troy said about John: "As cliché as it may sound, if I had to pick one candidate today to give a scholarship to that is deserving and possesses the aptitude to succeed, Chef-in-Training John F. Ruane would be my selection. I am confident that his culinary passion, charisma, willingness to contribute, and humble demeanor will make him an exceptional Chef. Additionally, Johnny is the type of person who will give back to his community as he has demonstrated through many hours of volunteer community service throughout his high school years and first semester in college."

When asking John about his college experience, he told us:
"After meeting with several people from the Culinary Institute of Virginia (CIV), I have realized that attending and graduating from this college will aid me in achieving goals leading to a successful career. CIV provides its students with a quality education through top-notch chefs, useful resources, and highly-qualified teachers. It will give me the opportunity to become a creative and marketable professional chef. I had the opportunity to personally work with several of the chefs and hear all about their individual experience in the industry. Knowing that these chefs have had successful careers in the food service industry and actually understand what they are talking about gives me assurance that I can learn from these culinary masters and achieve my goal of owing my own restaurant one day. Lastly, I was informed of the multitudes of connections this school has to offer within the industry and how I will be helped in finding a career to ensure my success as a committed chef. I strongly believe that by graduating from CIV, my future goals and dreams can most certainly become a reality, due to the endless help I receive from the faculty and staff."

Congratulations John!
