Imagine America Foundation

Student of the Week from

West Virginia Junior College, WV

The Imagine America Foundation is fortunate to annually support thousands of exceptional Career College students through Scholarships for Education. Some students, though, stand out above the rest.

The Imagine America Foundation is pleased to announce our Student of the Week, Chase Murphy from West Virginia Junior College in Bridgeport, WV. Chase was chosen for his exceptional grades, attendance, and work ethic. Chase has been awarded the Imagine America Foundation's High School Scholarship and Promise Award.

Chase was recommended to us by Aaron Jones, the IT Coordinator at West Virginia Junior College. Here is what Aaron had to say about Chase:  "Chase Murphy is one of my students in the IT program here at West Virginia Junior College in Bridgeport. Chase is very bright young student who is always willing to lend a helping hand. Chase gets along well with his classmates and really enjoys his classes. I believe Chase would make an excellent candidate for this scholarship opportunity as he has worked hard to reach the position that he is at now in his life, and has the passion to go far and do great things with his education."

When asking Chase about his college experience, he told us:
"The main reason I chose this school was because of the amazing staff who greeted me with smiling faces, and warm personalities. While in high school, I attended the United Technical Center for Computer Systems for two years, and did very well in the class. I had always been very tech savvy in the fact that not only did I love technology, but it was something that I felt I had a grasp of from a young age. While attending high school at Robert C. Byrd high school, I had a teacher who asked me one day after class what I planned to do after high school. I had planned to further my knowledge, and go to take my A+ certification exam to try to score a job working on computers somewhere like the FBI. When I told my teacher this he asked me if I had ever considered going to college, and furthering not only my knowledge of computers, but earning a degree. I had never really considered college much, mostly because going through school I was always told I wouldn’t have the grades needed. From that day on, my teacher helped in finding out what college would be most beneficial to me. In the end, if he hadn’t asked me about going to college and encouraged me to do better I might have never taken this path I’m on now. I now not only have a chance to go for my A+ Certification, but also my CCENT and my CCNA. I have learned a lot here at WV Junior College, and plan to take any exam I possibly can, and one day go to work for Hot Topic Inc. in California for their IT department."

Congratulations Chase!
